MATT SAWYER – HEAD COACH
Sawyer, 45, will enter his fifth season as Head Coach of the Toronto Rock in 2020-21. He has a record of 36-29 during his four seasons at the helm and guided the team to the NLL East Division Final in 2017 and 2019.
Hailing from Orangeville, Sawyer is a 3-time Minto Cup Canadian Jr. A Champion as a Head Coach and 2-time Minto winner as a player all with the Orangeville Northmen.
Previously, he served as an assistant coach in Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto during his NLL coaching career which began in 2002. This is his second stint on the Rock bench as he was part of the 2005 championship Toronto Rock squad. He has also been a head coach in the NLL with the Boston Blazers in 2011.
Sawyer serves as the Head Coach of the Oakville Rock of Major Series Lacrosse during the summer.
BRUCE CODD – ASSISTANT COACH
Codd, 42, from Orangeville, was an assistant coach with the Calgary Roughnecks from 2012-2016 before leaving for the Rock in the summer of 2016. He spent 12 years in the NLL and played his final year in 2012 with the Rock.
Recently, he led his hometown Orangeville Jr. B Northmen to back-to-back Founders Cup Canadian Jr. B Championships in 2016 and 2017. Codd is currently the Head Coach of the Orangeville Jr. A Northmen of the OJALL during the summer, winners of the 2019 Minto Cup Canadian Jr. A Championship.
Codd is also the Technical Director for the Ontario Lacrosse Association.
BLAINE MANNING – ASSISTANT COACH
Manning, 41, is a native of Sherwood Park, Alberta. He played all 12 of his NLL seasons with the Toronto Rock before stepping behind the bench as an assistant coach in 2014.
One of the most gifted offensive players in NLL history, Manning is responsible for guiding the offence. He finished his Rock career second in goals (307), second in assists (526) and second in points (833). He won four NLL Cups as a player (02, 03, 05, 11). He was named the NLL’s Rookie of the Year in 2002.
Manning is a member of the Sherwood Park Sports Hall of Fame.
BRANDON MILLER – ASSISTANT COACH
Miller, 41, is a native of Orangeville, ON and has previously been a goaltender (2014-2018) and an assistant coach (2019) with the Toronto Rock.
Prior to the 2019-20 season, Miller came out of retirement to play for the Philadelphia Wings and played one season before retiring. The veteran goaltender’s career began in 2001 with the Albany Attack and spanned 19 seasons with stops along the way in San Jose, Chicago, Philadelphia and Toronto.
Miller will be focused on working with the Rock’s stable of goaltenders.
