TORONTO – Chris “the Pistol” Driscoll and Matt “the Sniper” Shearer will both be back with the Toronto Rock in 2007. Driscoll inked a two-year deal, while Shearer signed a one-year contract.

Both veterans were key contributors with the Rock last season and both said they are thrilled to be back with the Rock for another season.

“It’s a good fit with my career with the Ontario Lacrosse Association and the opportunity to play once again with the Toronto Rock,” said Driscoll, a 34-year-old resident of Guelph and employee with the Ontario Lacrosse Association. “It’s a pleasure to play in front of the best fans in the NLL.”

As unrestricted free agents, Driscoll or Shearer could have signed anywhere without compensation. The only other unrestricted free agent with the Rock is now Dan Ladouceur.

In 13 games last year with the Rock, Driscoll finished with 15 points (5 G, 10 A) along with 40 loose balls.

Despite breaking his arm midway through the season, Shearer also had a strong year with Toronto. The Under Armour Canada employee collected 24 loose balls while adding 21 points (11 G, 10 A).

“I look forward to getting back to camp and starting the run for another championship,” said Shearer, a 32-year-old Whitby resident.

“Matt adds great depth to our offence and brings experience and professionalism to our team,” said Mike Kloepfer, director of lacrosse operations for the Rock. “We are happy he chose to stay with the Rock.”

Kloepfer said re-signing both players will help the Rock to compete with an always improving NLL East Division.

“We are happy to have Chris remain with the Toronto Rock for the next two years,” said Kloepfer. “His speed and athleticism are his major assets and will be depended on to improve our transition game this coming season.”

The contracts are pending league approval. As per club policy, other terms of the deals were not disclosed.
